FAQ’s

Common FAQ’s About Our Divorce Mediation Services

Are you lawyers?
No, we are not lawyers, we are mediators. We facilitate and help you develop you own independently negotiated resolution plan.

Do I still need a lawyer?
Yes, you will require a lawyer. We do provide you with guidance by bringing in a lawyer to do a seminar to discuss what the law is. You will need to retain a lawyer for independent legal advice and the lawyers will be required to prepare the official legal papers for divorce.

How much does it cost?

Each case is different. It depends on the level of complexity. For example, couple A may have no house, no children, and no assets. Couple B may have a house, a business, rental properties, investments and other assets.  Couple B is a more complicated case which will take longer to work through. The fee for couple B will be higher than the fee for couple A.

I am not on speaking terms with my husband, can I still use Divorce Mediation Services?
No. In order for mediation to work, both parties must be willing participants and both parties must be prepared to bargain in good faith. Both parties are prepared or have accepted the reality of the separation and the parties understand their legal rights and are willing to obtain independent legal advice before finalizing any agreement. Mediation is not appropriate in cases where there has been violence or abuse.

How long will the process take?
The process will be completed in about 120 days after full disclosure of all information required is met.
